01 / HOW FIXED BRACES WORKFixed orthodontic braces — precisely planned treatment
A proven way to treat many types of malocclusion, guided by an individual plan and regularly reviewed by an orthodontist. Brackets bonded to the teeth work with the archwire and other components. Carefully controlled forces gradually change tooth position and correct the way the teeth meet.
Fixed braces are a precise tool that allows you to control the position of teeth in many planes, but the type of brackets themselves does not constitute a treatment plan. The result is determined by the diagnosis, the method of mechanics, the regularity of visits, hygiene and the biological response of tissues. At Orto Smile, we do not bind the patient to one commercial name of the system - we select the solution according to the bite and the goal of the therapy. Fixed brace treatment in Chorzów, also for patients from Katowice, includes preparation, discussion of stages, inspections, emergency situations and retention stabilizing the achieved position.
A good orthodontist does not choose an appliance solely by the appearance of its brackets. Orthodontic planning begins with an assessment of the teeth, roots, bone, gums, jaw relationship and bite function. Only complete diagnostics allow the goals, possible options, expected duration and costs to be discussed responsibly.
02 / INDICATIONSWhen may an orthodontist recommend fixed braces?
- with complex malocclusions
- when precise tooth inspection is needed
- for patients ready for regular visits and hygiene
- for crowding, gaps and incorrectly positioned individual teeth
- when treatment requires coordinated tooth movement in both arches
- as part of preparation for restorative, implant or surgical treatment
Fixed braces can be used for teenagers and adults and, in selected cases, at an earlier age. Not every problem requires the same method. The orthodontist selects an option according to the diagnosis, age, oral health and the patient’s ability to cooperate.
03 / TYPES OF FIXED BRACESWhich type of fixed braces should you choose?
Patients most often compare metal, aesthetic and self-ligating braces. They differ in appearance and bracket design, but no type replaces proper diagnostics and orthodontist-led treatment.
01 / Metalowy klasyczny
A proven option with metal brackets and ligatures that hold the archwire. Ligature colours can be changed at review appointments.
02 / Estetyczny
Tooth-coloured brackets are less noticeable. The material is selected after assessing the indications, bite and oral-hygiene conditions.
03 / Self-ligating
The archwire is held in the bracket by a built-in mechanism. This does not automatically mean shorter treatment — progress depends on the complete orthodontic plan.
04 / Iconix
Brackets in a light champagne shade can be a visual alternative to classic metal. Clinical indications still determine whether they are suitable.

- diagnostics, preparation of the mouth and discussion of the complete treatment plan
- fitting the braces and explaining hygiene and after-appointment care
- regular reviews, adjustments and assessment of the response of teeth and tissues
- removal of the braces, final records and individually selected retention
Review appointments are used to assess progress, hygiene and tissue response and to introduce the next elements of the plan. The orthodontist sets their frequency — missed appointments or appliance damage can prolong treatment.
05 / EVERYDAY LIFE WITH FIXED BRACESHygiene, food and minor appliance problems
Fixed braces create additional areas where plaque can accumulate. Careful hygiene helps reduce the risk of enamel demineralisation, tooth decay and gum inflammation. Regular dental check-ups and professional preventive care remain necessary during orthodontic treatment.
01 / Higiena
Teeth and braces require thorough brushing with fluoride toothpaste and cleaning around the brackets and beneath the archwire, including with interdental brushes.
02 / Food
Hard and sticky foods can damage braces. Cut food into smaller pieces and limit frequent snacking and sugary or acidic drinks.
03 / Sytuacje awaryjne
Report a loose bracket or a wire that is causing irritation to the clinic. Orthodontic wax may temporarily cover the irritating part until you receive advice.

06 / SAFETY AND RETENTIONWhat is worth knowing before making a decision?
Before braces are fitted, the teeth and gums should be healthy and oral hygiene must be good enough to begin treatment safely. If the orthodontist identifies decay or inflammation, the patient is first referred to a dentist. Orto Smile does not provide general restorative dentistry.
Treatment duration and tissue response vary between patients. Retention is needed after braces are removed because teeth naturally tend to change position. The retainer type and wearing schedule are set individually.
