Fixed braces are a precise tool that allows you to control the position of teeth in many planes, but the type of brackets themselves does not constitute a treatment plan. The result is determined by the diagnosis, the method of mechanics, the regularity of visits, hygiene and the biological response of tissues. Which type of fixed braces should you choose?

Patients most often compare metal, aesthetic and self-ligating braces. They differ in appearance and bracket design, but no type replaces proper diagnostics and orthodontist-led treatment.

Review appointments are used to assess progress, hygiene and tissue response and to introduce the next elements of the plan. The orthodontist sets their frequency — missed appointments or appliance damage can prolong treatment.

Hygiene, food and minor appliance problems

Fixed braces create additional areas where plaque can accumulate. Careful hygiene helps reduce the risk of enamel demineralisation, tooth decay and gum inflammation. Regular dental check-ups and professional preventive care remain necessary during orthodontic treatment.

What is worth knowing before making a decision?

Before braces are fitted, the teeth and gums should be healthy and oral hygiene must be good enough to begin treatment safely. If the orthodontist identifies decay or inflammation, the patient is first referred to a dentist. Orto Smile does not provide general restorative dentistry.

Treatment duration and tissue response vary between patients. Retention is needed after braces are removed because teeth naturally tend to change position. The retainer type and wearing schedule are set individually.
