Sloping oval and jawline - where to start?

A drooping facial oval, a less pronounced jawline or what is commonly called "hamster lines" may result from several overlapping changes: skin quality, tissue position, loss of support and individual anatomy. Therefore, the plan should not start with one preparation.

A description of the appearance or sensation is a conversation starter, but is not a diagnosis or indication for a specific procedure. The decision is influenced by anatomy, health, previous treatments, tissue quality and the expected nature of the change.

What might attract attention?

• less clear border between face and neck
• feeling of heaviness in the lower part of the face
• uneven jaw contour or asymmetry
• a change in oval appearing with the loss of skin firmness

What do we evaluate before choosing a method?

• proportions of the profile and the lower part of the face
• quality, elasticity and location of tissues
• support for the cheek, chin and pre-mandibular area
• whether adding volume will increase the impression of heaviness

Not every visible change requires surgery. Sometimes it is more appropriate to care, observe, consult another specialist or consciously refrain from the procedure.

Sloping oval, "hamsters" and jaw contour

The terms "sloping oval" or "hamsters" describe the appearance, but do not indicate a single cause. Laxity of the skin, change in the position of tissues, loss of cheek support, the structure of the chin and jaw, as well as the proportions of the neck may be important. The plan should cover the entire lower part of the face.

Depending on the examination, skin quality improvement, subtle volumetry or a stepwise combination of methods may be considered. Hyaluronic acid should not be added automatically to an area that appears less defined, as excess volume may increase the heaviness of the lower floor.
